Nutritionist in Cambridge / Melanie Hanspall / My journey / About me

                            About me

What I do is an extension of how I live my life - sharing my knowledge of nutrition and gift of cooking with others is an absolute honor and a privilege. To be able to make a positive difference in someone else's life and see the effects is truly magical.

Eleven years ago, I moved back to Cambridge after living in London. I’d had enough of the long hours and commuting, plus I never seemed to have enough time to myself. The fast pace of living and working in London, often left me feeling exhausted, and at times, not looking after myself as well as I probably should have. This resulted in having to have a minor operation, which made me re-evaluate my lifestyle and diet.

I decided that I needed a change in my life, the first of which was to make plans to move back to Cambridge to be near my family again. This has allowed me to live a slower pace of life which enabled me to make changes to my health and fitness. I've been practicing yoga and love walking, which is an ideal way to get around Cambridge!

After researching different colleges, I found the Blackford centre and having read the amazing testimonials from students that had graduated, I applied to do a diploma in Nutrition level 4 for which I received a distinction grade. I have also attended a Naturopathic Nutrition course at CNM college in London, where I learned a great deal about a more holistic approach to food and lifestyle which is what I mostly practice myself. I would say that it's all about balance in life, healthy most of the time and allowing a few treats too!

Over the past few years I have been working with local companies in Cambridge: ARM, Cambridge Assessment, Astra Zeneca, Medimmune and Cambridge University Press within their wellbeing departments which I really enjoy and would like to work with more local companies advising staff on nutrition and wellbeing.

I have always been interested in healthy eating and have a passion for cooking, something that was passed onto me from my parents, who are both amazing cooks! I love to cook with all sorts of herbs and spices and love discovering new flavours. I believe that you can make healthy, balanced meals on any budget, it just takes a little bit of time and planning.

My love of all things Indian comes from my Dad's background and my many trips to India where the people, colours and life provide so much of my inspiration. Turning my passion into a career has been the best thing I have ever done and I'm always exploring new ways to educate people on healthy eating and pass on my valuable knowledge.
